Pieris is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that discovers and develops Anticalin protein-based drugs to target validated disease pathways in a unique and transformative way. Our pipeline includes inhalable Anticalin proteins to treat respiratory diseases and immuno-oncology multi-specifics tailored for the tumor microenvironment. Proprietary to Pieris, Anticalin proteins are a novel class of therapeutics validated in the clinic and by partnerships with leading pharmaceutical companies.

The new Head of Analytical Development will report to the Head of Technical Development, and will oversee internal and external CMC analytics. As an enthusiastic and self-motivated scientist and a leader, you will be involved in the state-of-the-art discovery and development of highly novel therapeutic proteins based on Pieris’ proprietary Anticalin® technology.

Your Tasks

  • Leading Pieris’ internal Analytical Development (AD) team responsible for:
    • Protein characterization with multiple spectrophotometric (UV/Vis), chromatography (SEC, IEX, RP), capillary (cSDS, IEF) and related methods (DSF, DSC) etc.
    • Performing a multi-stage “Developability” assessment of different Anticalin-based therapeutic® formats
    • Analytical method development and optimization
  • Planning and overseeing execution of outsourced analytical work (roughly equivalent to the internal workload) and establishing such partnerships as ‘external workbench’.
  • Team management (goal setting, performance review, personal development etc.)
  • Data interpretation and presentation (internal and external data)
  • Coordination of different project-related activities within the team, associated teams (DSP, Formulation development and QC), collaboration partners as well as with multiple CRO/C(D)MOs
  • Transfer of scientific data and processes from/to CRO/C(D)MOs and collaboration partners (e.g. preparation of protocols, participation in telephone conferences, scientific guidance)

  • Expertise in other relevant areas such as protein sequence analysis (including public database sources), protein modeling, mAb developability assessment, accelerated stability, CD spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, DLS etc. is a plus
  • Experience in multivariate data analysis is a plus
